Block L27/43 is 80km southeast of the Sinphuhorm field and contains the Dong Mun gas discovery made by Esso in 1990.
Seismic data over the block clearly illustrates a variety of plays from isolated and fringed reefal build-ups to karsted Permian carbonates. In 2008, Salamander and its partners drilled the Dong Mun-3 appraisal well that found gas in the primary Pha Nok Khao carbonate objective. However, the well also encountered gas in shallower Jurassic and Triassic clastics.
The shallow feature, Phu-Kheng, was drilled in H2 2009 and frac-tested in H1 2010 although it did not flow at commercial rates.
