Salamander was awarded block L26/50 as part of the Thai 20th Licensing Round in December 2007.
The nearest well drilled to date was Salamander Bang Nouan-1 well drilled in 2010 across the Mekong river in Lao PDR. The well encountered the Pha Nok Khao carbonate that is a productive reservoir in the Sinphuhorm field in the west of the basin. The well also saw gas in a shallower sandstone section. Whilst not commercial the Bang Nouan-1 well derisked the L26/50 acreage, that contains multiple structures thought to be c. 1 Tcf each.
Salamander will complete a 3D seismic survey over block L26/50 ahead of potential drilling in 2012.
