Service Contract 41 in the Philippines is Salamander's only deepwater block. It is located in the Sandakan basin, which contains a prospective deepwater foldbelt and covers an area of approximately 4,820 square kilometres with water depths ranging from 200 to 2,000 metres. To date, seven wells have been drilled in the block, with one located in the foldbelt, Wildebeest-1, which discovered 38.2° API oil and gas in 2000.
The Lumba Lumba-1 exploration well was drilled in 2008 targeting multiple stacked objectives in a large inversion structure but the well did not encounter any sandstones of reservoir thickness.
The partners are now reprocessing the seismic data to mature a number of independent, high impact prospects ahead of future drilling.
