Salamander’s upstream oil and gas production and exploration activities are concentrated in Asia; a region that is characterised by an open investment climate in the energy sector and stable GDP growth in recent years. The region is also home to both extensive hydrocarbon producing basins as well as untested frontier exploration regions, and has a long history of foreign participation and investment.
Within the region, Salamander is targeting proved but unexplored basins, as well as overlooked frontier basins. In doing so it is focused on two hub areas:
Indonesia
The upstream oil and gas opportunity set in Indonesia is characterised as being diverse, with opportunities ranging from deep water and frontier, untested basins to mature production. The country holds regular tender rounds for licences, and in addition, is host to a lively asset market with regular transactions taking place. Investors in the upstream sector include major oil and gas companies, regional national oil companies and other integrated Asian players as well as independent oil and gas companies. Salamander has interests in eight PSCs in Indonesia.
Greater Mekong
This area is loosely defined as Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Salamander has interests in two production licences and five exploration concessions in North East Thailand, a production licence in the Gulf of Thailand, a PSC in the transition zone in the Cuu Long Delta in Vietnam and two PSC's in Lao PDR.
