CEO introduction

Salamander Energy is a pure play Asian oil and gas exploration and production company.

When we started the company in 2005 the founders observed an absence in the market of independent exploration and production companies with a pure focus on Asia whilst at the same time, macroeconomic forecasts indicated that Asia would continue to experience strong GDP growth.  We saw this as a compelling market opportunity.  Salamander was formed with the aim of filling this niche and is now the largest independent E&P company with a pure Asian focus.

The strategy is straightforward; we have invested financial and human capital into consistently growing the production base to the point where our average production in 2010 was 20,000 boepd and we have visibility on growth to over 25,000 by 2013. We redeploy the generated cashflow into a sustained programme of potentially transformational exploration and appraisal drilling. This organic work programme is complemented through selective acquisitions that have the potential to create material value and improve the overall quality of the asset base.

To execute this strategy we have developed one of the largest operating platforms in the region. We have over 300 employees based in Asia across our offices in Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City. These are highly experienced teams with excellent knowledge of the regional geology and deep relationships with important stakeholders.

We also recognise and take seriously our responsibilities to conduct our operations safely and in full co-operation with the communities in which we operate.  More detail on our approach to corporate responsibility can be found in that section of the website.

The combination of our operating expertise, regional focus and an acreage position that has considerable room for growth, continues to provide the conditions in which we have the opportunity to materially increase shareholder value.
